Vermeil

ABCM's gold jewelry combines the durability and value of sterling silver with the luxurious aesthetics of 18K red gold through a high-quality Vermeil plating.

In our jewelry collections, we use 925 sterling silver as the base material and gild it with a layer of 18K red gold using a technique called Vermeil. This means that the jewelry itself is mostly made of 92.5% recycled silver, mixed with 7.5% recycled alloy metals to provide strength and durability.

The gilding, or plating, consists of 18K red gold and is applied at a thickness of at least 2.5 microns, which is significantly thicker than traditional gilding. This thickness makes our jewelry not only look exclusive but also more durable and long-lasting for everyday use.

With this technology, we combine sustainable materials with luxurious design to create jewelry that both feels and looks like real gold, but is more accessible and at the same time responsibly manufactured.

Vermeil

Vermail is a high quality form of gold plating where a thick layer of gold is applied to sterling silver. To be classified as Vermeil, the gold must usually be at least 10 carats and have a minimum thickness, often specified as at least 2.5 microns.

2.5 microns

This is the thickness of the gold plating. A layer of 2.5 μm is relatively thick for gold plating, making it more durable and less prone to wear away compared to thinner platings.

18K red gold

This means that the gold used for the plating is 18K, which means it is 75% pure gold mixed with other metals. Rose gold contains a higher proportion of copper, giving it a warm, reddish tone.

In summary, you get a piece of jewelry that has a base of durable sterling silver, covered with a thick and luxurious layer of 18K red gold. This gives the jewelry an exclusive look and feel of solid gold, but at a more affordable cost. The thick plating also increases the jewelry's longevity and resistance to wear.

Characteristics

  • Material combination: Vermeil consists of a core of sterling silver (92.5% pure silver) covered with a layer of gold.
  • Gold content: The gold used is at least 10K, but often higher for better quality and appearance.
  • Gold layer thickness: The gold layer is at least 2.5 micrometers thick, which is thicker than ordinary gold plating.
