Digital Jewelry Design – A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation
Every piece of jewelry starts with an idea at the drawing board and is then carefully crafted by hand in the studio to become our original . But before the finished piece is produced, it passes through the digital world for documentation and adjustments.
Through 3D modeling and digital precision technology, we can:
- Carefully document every detail of the jewelry
- Fine-tune proportions and details before production
- Complete our original on the journey towards finished jewelry with a detailed description in text and images.
- Create drawings and descriptions of all ABCM's jewelry for our archive
Why is the digital step so important?
By working digitally we have the opportunity to take control of the production of our jewelry. We also have the opportunity to optimize the jewelry ourselves before it is manufactured in precious metals. This means that we can:
- Discover possible design improvements for production already in the concept phase.
- Ensure that the jewelry to be manufactured follows our descriptions in terms of design, quality and materials .
- Minimize material waste and work more sustainably.
From sketch to digital 3D model
Documenting an original as a digital model requires both technical expertise and artistic flair. At ABCM, we use advanced 3D modeling technology, where each piece of jewelry is created and documented in a digital work environment before it becomes reality.
3D modeling – The jewelry takes shape digitally
Once a design is fully developed in the studio, an exact digital version of the piece of jewelry is created, defining everything from thickness and setting to detailed surfaces.
- We create a scale 3D model of the jewelry.
- Every surface and proportion is imaged and adjusted to ensure that the jewelry is optimized for production.
- We can simulate light reflections and material properties and in this way supplement our handmade original with information about the desired end result.
Example: A pair of earrings must be carefully balanced to hang beautifully , feel comfortable and maintain the desired quality. Through digital modeling , we can ensure that the jewelry will be manufactured as an exact replica of our handmade, carefully crafted original .
